What is the Study of Human Pathology?

It’s an exciting time and there is so much to learn when you decide you want to begin schooling to become a massage therapist!

As part of your massage school training, you may receive a number of hours of training in the study of human pathology.

What is human pathology?

The definition of pathology is the science of the causes and effects of diseases. Human pathology is the study of the causes and effects of diseases on humans.

But why does studying diseases in humans and the effects of these diseases in humans get included in coursework for becoming a massage therapist?

While it may at first seem strange to some that they would be required to learn about human diseases when learning about the power of touch in a massage therapy program, it actually makes a lot of sense.

Massage therapy is a hands-on method used in holistic wellness. You will be directly touching the people you work with and you will need to know a lot about the human body you will be touching on a daily basis.

Have some knowledge of disease can help you better care for your client’s needs and recognize certain things as you work with hundreds, if not thousands, of humans/people year after year.

Understanding the changes and experiences that occur to people through disease and injury can help you be a better caretaker for the clients to whom you provide massages.
