You’ve likely heard the term ‘self-care’ in many different venues and described in a variety of ways.
Most agree that at least some form of self-care is vital for all. You may have heard people say, “You can’t take care of anyone else if you don’t take care of yourself.”
Self-Care in Massage Therapy
In the career of massage therapy, self-care is most definitely called out as an important part of becoming and continuing to be a successful massage therapist.
Work as a massage therapist is physical work. For the sake of maintaining hygienic standards and for the sake of even just being able to do the work continuously, you are going to have to focus on proper self-care techniques.
Your hands, arms, back, and overall body can be affected to the extreme if you do not pay attention to properly caring for yourself as a massage therapist.
One of the many things you will learn when you go to school to become a massage therapist is a set of techniques for being able to care for yourself and enable yourself to actually work in the field of massage therapy long-term.
It won’t become a career for you if you cannot sustain more than a few weeks or months worth of work before you are physically incapable of performing massage therapy due to a lack of self-care.
